Jeju Island, located at the very south-end of South Korea, is one of the most interesting city in this country with some of the prettiest beaches and scenic view one could ever looked for. Today, I'm going to give you some basic tips while travelling in Jeju Island.
1. Transportation
Unlike other cities in South Korea especially the capital Seoul, there is no subway systems in Jeju and the only transports one could depend on will be taxis, buses
(which do not come as frequent), rental car or hop on a tour in Jeju.
Taxi is not recommended as most tourist spots in Jeju are rather far from each other (some might take 1 hour, Jeju is not as small as what normally people thinks!). Unless the places that you'd like to go are close to each other, taking taxi in Jeju will somehow cost you a bomb.
For those who cannot drive, you might opt for town buses that runs in the town. However, take note that the buses do not come as frequent and it is mostly in Korean, so do plan your schedule and timing properly if you are going for the buses. Do remember to prepare a T-Money card (transportation card) too while travelling with public transport in Korea, it'll be much convenient and discounts might be available too when you're using a T-money card! (You can get a T-money at most convenience store in Korea). More informations on Jeju intercity bus here.
City tour bus is available too, which brings you to most famous tourist destinations in Jeju. It's one of the best choice for those solo travellers or travellers who does not have a driving license. Click here for more info.
Car rental is one of the most convenient way to move around Jeju, as you can go whereever you want on your own schedule rather than matching up with the bus arrival time. However, one needs to have an international license in order to get a rental car here in Jeju. (Tips: The driver seats is on the left side of the car so just take note for travellers from countries with their driver car seat on the right, you might be a little unfamiliar with the seats.) You can easily find a car rental service online but here's an example for you guys!
2. Flight tickets
Flight tickets from Seoul to Jeju normally cost 50-70 USD (more expensive during holiday season here, which can go up to about 100-150 USD) So, it is recommended to book your flight and guesthouse/hotels as early as possible to get great deals on the air tickets.
Some of the airlines that fly from Seoul to Jeju:
1. Korean Air
2. Asiana Airline
3. Jeju Air
4. T-way
5. Peach airline
The latter 3 airlines offers super cheap air ticket deal at times (which is sold out very fast), so do keep an eyes on them!
3. Weather
As Jeju is surrounded by sea, one could expect much wind blow and hot sun during summer. Monsoon season is during early July till probably end of August in Korea so if you're travelling here at this time remember to bring along your sunscreen and a handy umbrella with you! The weather during winter is typically warmer than the capital cities, but still bring enough clothing to warm yourself as winter in Korea is quite cold!
That's all from me today and more to come about Jeju soon!^_^
